Provincetown, MA - Provincetown Art Association and Museum is proud to announce the recipients of the 2012 Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Foundation Grant.
Congratulations to Irene Lipton of North Truro, MA; Catherine Kehoe of Roslindale, MA; Maria Napolitano of Providence, RI; and Reiner Hansen of Brooklyn, NY. Recipients were awarded $8,000 and an exhibition in September 2013 at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
Grants are offered to American painters aged 45 or older who demonstrate financial need. The primary emphasis is to promote public awareness and a commitment to American art, as well as encouraging interest in artists who lack adequate recognition. A total of $30,000 is awarded annually.
The jurors for this year’s award were Melissa Meyer, a painter whose work is represented in the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, amongst others; Katy Kline, Interim Director of the Williams College Museum of Art; and Richard Baker, a former Provincetown resident and painter who received a Pollock Krasner Award and is represented in the permanent collection at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
