Event Description

International Deadline: October 1, 2014 - The Vermont Studio Center is excited to announce that 34+ fellowships are available, including the Rona Jaffe Foundation Fellowship for emerging women writers and 25 merit-based VSC Fellowships open to all!

Year-round, VSC hosts hundreds of artists and writers from across the country and around the world, each of whom receives an individual studio, private room, and all meals. Residencies last from 2-12 weeks and provide uninterrupted time to work, a community of creative peers, and a beautiful village setting in northern Vermont.

In addition, VSC's program includes a roster of Visiting Artists and Writers who offer slide talks/readings and individual studio visits/conferences.

In 2014, VSC has dramatically increased the number of VSC fellowships available to all artists and writers based on merit.

The following fellowships are available at our October 1, 2014 Deadline:

  • Vermont Studio Center (VSC) Fellowships Open to All
Twenty-five awards open to all artists and writers, based entirely on merit.

  • Clowes Fund Fellowships
Four fellowships, one each for visual artists living in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Indiana and Washington. Each award includes a $400 travel stipend.

  • Ohio Arts Council Fellowships
Two fellowships, one each for a visual artist and writer, who are recent recipients of OAC Individual Excellence Awards. Each award includes an $800 stipend.

  • Civil Society Institute Fellowship
One award for an east coast minority artist with demonstrable financial need. Award includes a $500 travel stipend. Applicants to this award will receive an application fee waiver with confirmation of eligibility (details for the waiver process are provided within the online application).

  • Rona Jaffe Foundation Fellowship
One fellowship for an emerging woman writer who will be a first-time resident at VSC. This award includes a stipend of $1,250 to help cover expenses associated with taking the residency, including but not limited to travel, rent, child-care, or to replace lost income.

The Vermont Studio Center is proud to offer nearly $1.4 million annually in fellowships, grant assistance, and work-exchange to make residencies possible for nearly 700 artists and writers each year.
