New Year New Art------Work in progress!

I am not a full time artist.  In fact I have hardly touched my paints these past few years.  Life gets ahold of you, you blink and before you know it you are trying to find a way back to what you used to love so much.  I remember what some of my biggest issues were when I stopped painting.  My frustration left most paintings unfinished and my lack of time was a great excuse to let the dust build on all my supplies.  NO MORE!  I promised myself this year I would find a way back and I am getting there slowly but surely.  I recently took an art class to help brush up on the basics.  By the end of the class I was fired up and ready to go........but now I am trying to figure what next....Should I continue to work on some of the exercises we did in class?  Work on some of my old paintings?  Work on something new?

I did find something in class that I had forgotten about that I feel is crucial to my growth as an artist......I found fellow artist.  We all shared the similar frustrations, dreams and demands for our time but most importantly the love of creating art.  I  really do hope that this group can come together again like it once did in supporting each other.   If anyone has any ideas or discussions they want to get started please let me know.

Hello Sloan: I suffered "joke" through 4 years of art school. It is necessary because an artist needs to know art history and the craft, however, a student can get brainwashed depending on who the teachers are. Primarily, artists need to follow their own instincts.
As for having talent, sometimes it doesnt become apparent until later on how much talent a person has. Usually, talent shows up early, but not necessarily. Be careful about that. It mostly has to do with the "noticing", "thinking", "emotional desire of the artist to communicate" and devices of that nature.

Dear Sloan, I think that most people don't want to articulate about the things they are working on or the will lose contact with their own inner muse, also art is so personal they art afraid to be interment with another artist. All the best, Donald

Yes unfortunatly it seems this group has become rather inactive. However, it seems like many members have moved on to facebook and continued to communicate with each other there! I will admit any extra time I spend I usally will check that out first. Please look me up there if your new and need some help. I hope everyone is doing great and making great art!

Well i have been working on multipule oil paintings at once...it seems to be the only way to actually keep working since once you have to walk away from one for a few days you still have other things to work on. I have found out that abstract art is an art all its own and you can't just pick up your brush and think you are going to be the next Jay Zerbe! I have to get back to work but I hope everyone is keeping busy. I have found that Facebook is really good for networking and meeting new people....as suggested by many of you!

All has been quiet with "taking it to the next level" so thought I'd post this for thoughts. For some time I have wanted to incorporate sound, movement into works of art which moves it out of the normal arena of what we have been taught as "art." I have a friend who is a teacher and a sound artist that has been working with digital story telling. I am intrigued by this but wish to take it beyond the story telling. I love light, shadows and the quiet sounds that are often part of this world that we often don't see or hear. I would love your thoughts on this possible form of expression. Since the web is so much and perhaps sometimes too much part of our daily lives would this be of any value? Thanks in advance for you input!

Dear Sloane,

You worked so hard at the website and I understand how you needed time off. It got pretty busy there for a while. I do like Facebook. It offers a lot if used properly.trying to do with the As for the Take-it-to -the-next-level site., I am so busy that I just can't find the time to do all the response that the members seem to want. So perhaps I should bow out. I tried to keep up and then the bombardment of requests got so heavy that I just gave up. But many thanks for trying so hard.

I am sorry I have been so absent latley. Had to send computer in and Facebook seems to be a great net-working tool like many of you have suggested. If anyone has any ideas of what you may like me to do with this site let me know, I really have taken more a hands-off approach, it did fall apart somewhat, I don't know if anyone has any ideas. I can just leave it as is or try to fix it up some. Welcome to everyone who is New!
