Curator’s Comments:

This photograph of winding, but parallel hoses looked familiar when I came across it today; perhaps from a past recollection of when it was posted to the site a number of years ago.  The ordinary items take on an animated quality with their sinuous twisting, and chalky primary colors. Their stretched-out length accommodates the long floating dock, repeating the architectural lines in the environment.  Looking closer today I appreciate the subtle colors rubbed into the surface of the ground- as if the red hose transferred its pale color to the blue-green surface. The repetitive straight lines in the dock structure create an interesting physical opposition to the flowing lines of the hoses.  Perhaps that’s what caused you- and me- to take a second look at the scene.
