Curator’s Comment:

I really enjoy the violet- green color palette and gestural striations in these recent works.  The shapes loosely outline branches and trees, but amorphously dissolve within themselves to suggest figures within a broader landscape.  I am particularly fond of this composition, since the light gives the impression of emerging from a centralized column, while the linear undulations slow down the vertical movement just enough for me to appreciate the intricate spacial relationships.  I see ghost trees moving in and out of the middle core, alluding to the passage of time or evolutionary process.  The stylistically similar piece  before it (not individually titled- but fourth slide from left) is more directly tied to the organic subject by degree of representation, but I see the strength of its arrangement as the solidity of the left sided trunk versus the more ethereal ground.  The pencil drawings that were also recently posted are interesting as well as they provide a window into the creative process- I see lines searching for form and content; marks intuitively investigating and mining the immediate environment for lasting meaning.
