This painterly portrait has a mysterious mood if not a dark energy, in that the eyes read as blackish holes among densely crisscrossed hatched lines.  I interpret the dark shape between the eye sockets as a possible third eye.  The skewed alignment of the other features appears to be cubistically altered, but the planes in the head partially dissolve into the gestured mark making. The expressive sensibility here is heavily engaging.  I also enjoy the limited color palette, and the light dispersement of reddish and blue hues, which breaks up the severity of the more graphic black and white lines.  I vacillate between thinking the piece represents a face mask, versus a fleeting human expression.
