Curator’s Comments:
Aline (12) appeared randomly today, and only after looking through the other pieces in your portfolio did I remember your comments about your complexly layered analog & digital amalgamations. Unlike Alice, Aline does not appear to have been constructed from two disparate media, but with two graphite or charcoal figure drawings. The doll like nature of the small figure and model presence of the adult woman creates a montage of time and memory. Perhaps the intent was for the viewers to look through the woman to see the girl. The soft focus and low contrast of the overall image also contributes to the effect of a faded memory. My eyes are attracted to the dark shadows lining the adult’s eyes, which are echoed down in the small black shoes. It’s a beautiful piece, with a decidedly haunting quality.
