Curator’s Comments:

East End Cross Roads came to my attention because of the interesting composition that just slightly relieves the divided bilateral symmetry.  The paths branch off in opposite corners of the composition, while the contrasting patch of brownish-orange brush pushes in from the left.  The small bits of reflective blue-gray on the ground on the right side break up the expanse of white earth, and echo the more saturated hues in the sky. Overall the slight hazy texture has an almost painterly quality. While you noted the photograph was manipulated digitally, the enhancements aren’t overbearing, and only slightly shift the textural qualities but not focus of the piece.  I also like how the trees in the background on either side seem divergent in species/shape, despite their analogous green mass at first glance.  The sensation is that an immediate choice of geographic direction foretells an entirely different landscape.
