Curator’s Comments:

Thank you for alerting me to this new piece.  I have enjoyed seeing your sculptures evolve, and how you have been dealing with “static kineticism.”   This particular work employs a bold structure that seems more singular than the multifaceted pieces you’ve posted.  While one could argue a sense of duality exists in the structure by the two opposing arms that join at the right-angled bend, the work’s central core form provides a high degree of visual stability.  While the trajectory of the shapes still appeals as aerodynamic forms, the small cubic like shapes in a grid offsetting the larger solid rectilinear structure provide a less economic approach. The choice of pure white helps unify the separate pieces of the artwork, but does suggest an industrial mechanism.  I find the choice of this base unusual.  I realize you often work with pieces of stone you come across, but this material looks softer?  It is decidedly more organic in coloration and textural variation than the black granite in recent works such as Pirouette or Wind Riders.  The base of Comet is also proportionally larger than those sculptures; projecting beyond the point of “touch done” of the lowest reaching points. (In this case, the base, rather than projections.)  I am always curious if you articulate formal decisions in the new directions of your work, or if these variations are strictly intuitive aesthetic choices.
