Curator’s Comments:

Thank you for bringing my attention to this new piece.  I have enjoyed seeing the evolution of your sculptural work, and appreciate the insights you’ve shared into your shifts in direction and concepts.  Dias certainly exhibits a continuity in the trajectory of your cantilevered forms, and suspension of flat plans along a vertical axis.  The repetition of the geometric shapes provides a harmonic rhythm that moves the viewer through space.  I would immediately recognize this work as part of your signature style. However, the color appears to be a unique choice in your repertoire - more intense than what I’ve been accustomed to seeing.  The sky blue hue may relate to the title, as in a throne to the heavens rather than the corporeal world.  I find the more organically modeled marble platform to be an even more surprising visual juxtaposition.  While I can’t be certain if this element is natural or painted, the active textures and contrast creates a strong division between discordant elements. I wonder if this aesthetic separation was intentional, or if the darker blue marbling was in fact an attempt to connect the two spaces.  Color aside, I enjoy the slight sway created by the upward shifts in direction that counter the bolder diagonal movements.
