Drink Me?, is commenting on the impending scarcity of clean drinking water on this planet. It is an issue that was certainly in the spotlight last year due to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan and the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. However, these isolated cases I fear will become substantially more prevalent as years pass and precipitate a global crisis where clean water is perhaps the highest commodity.

Growing up I seldom felt that I was out of reach; that an issue reported on the news somehow didn’t, doesn’t, shouldn’t or wouldn’t affect me. This feeling of being connected has naturally grown as a parent. The photo is of my youngest son Elliott, a 3yr old white boy growing up in a middle class home. There is a mix of wonder, hesitation, and trepidation evident in the boy’s posture as he approaches Sioux Falls. The trepidation has ironically nothing to do with the water’s makeup and everything to do with being drawn to something that he can’t control.

As humans, we are up to 60% water and the earth is about 71%. We are drawn to what sustains us and it is frightening to have to consider that we may all be shortly needing to ask whether it is better to drink or not to drink.
