I appreciate your insightful critic of this work.   It was done a few years ago when I completed a body of still life work.  Showing only half of the Urn creates a mystery (as do the deep hued complimentary colors) and curiosity.  My work is mostly abstract but now and again I pull off something like this and the body of "Ceramic Vessels".

Curator’s Comments:

Green Urn stands out from your signature body of abstractions as a more representational painting.  The small white highlights on the urn suggest a reflective luster to the piece. I was also struck by the dramatic red-green complementary relationship, especially as the scheme also seems to be an outlier in your oeuvre.  The jewel like hues embody the object with a sensual quality, along with the curvilinear form.  The extreme cropping of the subject and vertical elongation is also of interest, denying the viewer what is imagined to be Classical symmetry. Curiously, one other work you’ve posted on the site appears to address the same subject, Ceramic Vessels.  But while the red-green palette continues, this piece presents the forms in a flat, two-dimensional motif.  I’m wondering, as these two pieces were posted many years ago, if they represent a larger body of work.  In either case, I do hope you continue to post current work in the New Year.
