Curator’s Comments:

Welcome to the site!  Your painting I Am The Cosmos caught my attention, with its elongated composition of writhing figures.  The top (androgynous) figure takes on a supernatural radiance, as his upward looking eyes direct us to the flaming lines of his hair, which merge with the burning sun.  The thick impasto application of paint injects considerable movement into the piece, and further animates the reaching gesture of the top figure. With longer viewing, the bottom figure, which is decidedly female, is grounded in her space. The darker muted hues are also cooler in temperature, a moon opposing the sun.  The inclusion of her bibbed garment could suggest an antiquated or matronly persona.  I am not sure what to make of her sideways glance- it could be suspicion or reprimand. I wonder if the contrast in these figures is intended to set up an archetypal or astrological narrative, of if their relationship is simply more personal and profane.
