Curator’ Comment:

 

The album If There is Chance came up randomly on the site, and I was drawn into the simple cartoon narratives that encapsulate mixed signals, whether it comes to love, or global affairs. The image of the couple sitting opposite each other at a table (#9) with thought bubbles expressing different card suits is a humorous take on love. The immediate and universal understanding in the drawing is communicated in many other works in the series.  If There is Chance 16 also appears to comment of the suffering of those in love.  At first thought the victim of the heart shaped nail bed appears to be merely reflecting on his uncomfortable situation, with the nail bed echoed in his thought bubble.  But there’s also the lingering sentiment that his circumstance is of his own making.  Many of these cartoons offer an optimistic view of life’s pain and obstacles, which is certainly welcome today, despite the fact they were posted several years ago.  I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to discover them, but hope you’ll post new works to the site
