Curator’s Comments:

The position and rooftop placement of the figure in Regret strikes a universal chord.  I rediscovered the small charcoal drawing within a series of your figure studies created several years ago. Each of the other pieces offers a tightly cropped square containing people actively engaged in various activities.  A lone figure is aptly drawn for Regret. It seems conceptually appropriate that he would cast a darker shadow with his body than would be expected in the bright outdoor light.  I appreciate his distraught expression, captured in a few contour lines, as well as the manner in which the bare trees appear to grow out of his lonely space.  The steep angle of the roof adds some drama to what might otherwise be a still composition.  Could this be saying something about regret and grief being a slope? Whether or not a metaphor is intended, the feeling of regret is palpable.
