Curator’s Comments:

Thank you for requesting review of your new piece, Indigenous! This piece appears to travel further yet beyond your signature economic and hard edged sculptures, and even beyond the dynamic geometry in your recent two-dimensional pieces KSS9 & KSS11.  The striking duplicity of the radiant white shapes are immediately suggestive of flowers, but on closer inspection the weathered and blunted edges of the “petals” puts them more in the realm of propellers, or another off-kilter mechanical gear.  The top of the off-radial design on the right side even has lines suggestive of such circular movement, along with the vague structural scaffolding in the bottom of the composition.  However, the irregularity of interval between the white sections does not allow for a fluid movement, as utilized in your previous sculptures.  The primary red, blue and gold hues also push the background to the front of the picture plane, flattening any perception of a deeper space.  I’m curious about the title of this new piece, as it implies a naturally grounded formation.
