I like these two new achromatic works on paper.  The line work vacillates between lyrical calligraphy and a more aggressive gesture.  I also find myself contemplating the density of the build-up of marks in your works.  These pieces seem somewhere in between the lighter palette images (beginning with Stormy Spring) with a good amount of negative space, and the more densely layered paintings with deeper tones.  The title implies these Day at the Studio paintings may be process oriented, or at least intuitively responsive to a particular moment rather than conceptually developed over time.  Of the two works I have a slight preference for the first- actually labeled Day 2.  The fluid interchange of line and space is less predictable, or regular than its paired piece, with several openings of the ground in the interior of the composition.  The inclusion of some areas, or perhaps collaged pieces, of warmer toned neutrals also breaks up the intervals of shape and move me through the picture plane.  Both works exhibit a confident and exuberant energy, and I like getting temporarily lost in the space.  I do hope we continue to see more of these works on the site.
