Curator’s Comment:

The economy of these in-the-round sculptures is very successful, providing fresh and often intuitive perceptual states. I’m most attracted to the bronze piece entitled Waiting, as it doesn’t rely on any straightforward pictorial figurative representation, but rather cuts to the essence of a pause in time with gesture.  The gap within the open shape draws attention to the interstice as a physical manifestation of a timely interval.  It also stands as the quintessential embodiment of the human condition.  I find the state of waiting itself to be poetically expectant- an almost melancholy mood in perpetual expectation.  The sequential grouping of the other works titled Meeting and Glory constructs a simply, and easily understood universal narrative.  Interestingly, the final Glory appears to take on more of a celebratory glossy sheen in the context of the series content. The suggestion of splendor or triumph after meeting evokes this heightened surface quality, despite the fact that the other works are also highly polished.
