Sanity Check was posted some time ago, but came up in a recent random search. I was rewarded for taking a closer look at the thumbnail, since the graphic contrast of the receding grid dominates the value pattern of the piece. On closer inspection the viewer is treated to a surreal cascade of organic bodies. The upper left blue corner with classically rendered figures falling suggests a mythical or Biblical narrative of (a/the) fall. The counterbalance on the right depicting architectural structures foiled with slithering snakes further evokes a natural conflict between mankind’s innate vices and virtues. There’s a lot packed into this modestly scaled work. The black squares of the grid both imply a triangular, hierarchal structure as well as suggest the aerial perspective of a road. While this isn’t true linear perspective, the angled and implied lines lead us into this turbulent and uncertain space without a vanishing point or safe place to land.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
