Curator’s Comment:

Shofar No Tweets, Gideon is an entirely unique world- the illustrative image is part children’s book, part biological specimen, and part surreal landscape.  The large undulating tentacle twists through the upper space, balancing the tremendously detailed and intricate creatures below.  I enjoy how it begins as a solid form and metamorphoses to a semi-transparent shell. The figurative elements seem to float in the air, but also compel each other as they interact and respond to choreographed movement.  The many (shoed) feet of the lizard like animal reverberates elsewhere in the space, making the piece seem to be a dance of fantastical beings. The surface of the piece similarly appears to fluctuate between a smooth controlled surface and more randomly articulated texture.  But that can difficult to decipher online. I also enjoy the deep blue color in this piece, as it contrasts the fragile subjects.  Your other pieces seem more delicate overall, with a more anticipated figure-ground value relationship.  The blue green colors in this space provide a depth and ‘sea’ for the figures to swim.
