Curator’s Comments:

These are truly incredible new figurative works!  Technical finesse and craftsmanship are strongly evident in the anatomical detail and color relationships, but the sardonic nods to contemporary haute fashion and pop culture interwoven into the portraits add hilarious spin.  The coiffed woman posing against a Damian Hirst dotted backdrop with a lump of baggy skin is exquisitely conceived and constructed.   I find the deformity of the ‘flesh tote’ beyond grotesque, hovering in between stylized animation and macabre caricature.  Luckily for the viewer, it lacks the seriousness that could arise from a more representational form.  The adjoining large scale piece- perhaps a diptych- commands equal attention, echoing a practically mirrored interaction between the figures striking model poses.  The strong momentum established by the graphic rainbow stripes in the background of this painting propels both ‘figures’ into vertical compositional movement.  The upswept hair of the woman balanced on her stilettos is also an amusing sketch of over advertised and air-brushed glamour.  Thanks for sharing these new pieces.
