Thank you for the kind wqords and insight. The Suburbs Cometh brings in the invasion of the suburbs to both rural and vacation lands. I spent some early years living on a farmete (Very small farm) and I refer to this in several of my works. Thank you once again and I wish you all the best. Ron W.

Curator’s Comment:

I thoroughly enjoy your work, and Suburbs cometh in particular, but I’m uncertain I can reconcile the title with this image.  I also see this body of work as drawing oriented rather than as paintings as lines build up in dense hatched tonality rather than solid patches of color.  The result of the technique or process, whichever the media, is a rich and sophisticated layering of warm and cool hues.  The body of the rooster-like animal on the right is particularly multifaceted, as the vibrant pink and yellow emerges underneath its aqua blue feather-coat. The animal curiosities are whimsical but are clearly composites of many species rather than natural beings.  The largest figure on the left (half bird half pink Holstein) remains curiously compartmentalized, as if in masquerade rather than a product of genetic mutation/engineering.  But perhaps I’m reading too much into the subject matter, for the color and mood are clearly upbeat.  The repetition of organic forms, from the line of trees to the interspersed clouds which directly counterbalance the cattails in the opposite diagonal, formally organize and steady the composition.  But I’m also intrigued by the use of flatter space and compressed background.  By denying atmospheric perspective the piece alludes to folk art or storybook places.
