Curator’s Comment:

I enjoy feasting on this animated piece on Thanksgiving Day.  Appearing to contain all of the trappings of a traditional Western holiday meal, the work is organized in a fanciful and playfully patterned motif.  The bold centerpiece of the large cooked turkey supports the swirling movement of all of the other tiny pieces; I’m glad it’s outlined in a warm blue, as it nicely carries the color palette as well.  The inclusion of cultural anomalies adds graphic interest and visual complexity to the space.  The opened can and honey bear bottle are easily seen as nods to contemporary food adaptions, while the dump truck, simple shack and flea dispersed throughout the picture are harder to conceive of as incorporated elements.  The small errant drips of paint and expressive gestures are also welcome in the otherwise meticulously organized composition. In many ways the other drawing you have posted, Torso, is organized with a stronger design sensibility when it comes to handling the color, negative space and reversal of linear values.  The modeling of warm and cool shadow within shapes such as the fruit and fish complement the simpler black contours of other foods and figures. Here, the large abbreviated torso/mannequin body is much like the turkey in its hierarchal role in the composition, and eerily similar in its cut limbs and neck.
