Curator’s Comments:
Water Earth Air Fire V came up randomly on the site today, and I was quickly drawn into the sea of tiny light beads against its dark field, suggestive of a concentrated astrological configuration. The lighter cloud-like shape in the top center shifts in the space, and its visual movement travels into all of the tiny fissures radiating from its warmer core. I remember admiring some of your other paintings with a hot color palette- this one is in some ways more subtle (in its thumbnail) and overall value pattern, but dazzles once the viewer enters into its pictorial field. The title of the piece evokes further elemental forces at work. As I contemplate what I first interpreted as starry beads of light, I imagine they could be water droplets bursting into steam. I like that the background suggests a larger expanse, without smaller delineations, or shaped configurations within restricted boundaries. While the image appears as a slice of a larger whole, the sense of the infinite is beautifully conjured.
