Curator’s Comments:
I’ve admired your artist’s books and rich mixed media constructions in the past, and today revisited your body of work with greater admiration for Winners and Losers. I like that the red box container unfolds to reveal graphically contrasting and different design elements and narrative content. The hand pulled and digital prints fluidly intersect just as the domino dots and iconic depictions of flora and fauna connect to each other. I intuitively understand the black and white species to be the “losers” in the global warming scenario, with the more colorful butterflies and jellyfish potentially being winners. Admittedly, I hadn’t fully contemplated there could be numerous victors in our ever warming planet. The red shell of the piece, or game, signals a warning bell as much as temperate warmth. I recognize this work was created several years ago, and do hope it has been exhibited widely in this time.
