Curator’s Comments:

I came across your piece entitled Yield today, and appreciated it more with longer viewing. I admired YHWH within this same Journey series some time ago, for its ethereal light, and the manner in which the figures blend into the surreal dream world. Yield carries some of these same visual proprieties, as well as the emotional impact of corporeal transformation.  But in my initial viewing I don’t think I fully appreciated the central figure as a sort of axis mundi, separating the world of the flesh- extending out on a long arm or wing in space- from the hand extending down from the heavens.  This larger figure presents as a child, carrying with her associations of birth and renewal, innocence and wonder. The emptiness of the space above the horizon provides a visual rest, and place to contemplate the rolling clouds, and interlocking connections between the hands. The small amount of darkness in the upper right quadrant of the piece provides contrast to the illumination, both formally and conceptually.
