Hi - the "dots" are light revealed through holes created by the woven canvas. Thanks, as always, for your critique.
Curator’s Comments:
Zen Garden 08, night view is a pleasurable form; as much image as object. The installation which includes an artificial light source no doubt creates a glowing pictorial field. It is a bit difficult for me to make out the physical surface of the painting on my monitor- the description of woven canvas strips and acrylics makes me wonder if the dots are painted, or if they’re actual holes between the webbing. In either case, the back lighting creates the impression of a solar eclipse. It appears quite different from the other pieces in your Zen garden series, as they offer exploratory marks building up a representational topography. The more natural or filtered light of these spaces is softer, but one could argue they are equally as evocative as the graphic night view.
