The Minotaur

"Curator’s Comments:   The Minotaur is an arresting image, with hot orange hues bubbling under the abraded surface.  The side wards glaring eye of the great beast adds tension to the cropped image; he stares out at the viewer with…"

"Curator’s Comments:   Cherry Cake is lighthearted and imaginative, with an uplifting color palette.  Vertically layered in sections, as its title suggests, the decorative blue motif on the left edge connects the varying elements of…"

"Curator’s Comments:   Colors of Adobe caught my attention this afternoon, with its interplay between deep pink and gold.  The smaller splatters of pale blue balance the warm color palette, and direct the visual movement to the four…"

Many thanks for your kind review of The Greedy.  I am immersed in the very slow process of understanding this complicated poem Commedia, looking at the distant past, how it relates to the alarming present and the personal.  In these my late years it would be amusing to eventually arrive at Paradiso.  The Greedy, as I recall, is commenting on materialism.

Dear Kristen

I liked your suggestion about the Red Queen/White Queen possibly being a split personality.  Perhaps on some level I am expressing that.  However the real reason is not as interesting..perhaps.  "Alice though the Looking Glass" has always been a favorite of mine, very quotable with interesting insights.  The most interesting, to me, is when she is on a hill and looks over the fields, woods and streams below.  She exclaims "why it is a huge game of chess being played over the whole world" (something like that").  I think "yes indeed".  So the painting is based on a chess board but I wanted to break it down and not make it so rigid.  I tried to figure out, more or less how the moves might work out, for example the knight has moved from his starting spot to forth spot from the left second row down.  The whole piece could be savagely taken apart if one is a chess player.  Different images play the queen, king etc, the pawns remain the same.  That is where the fun was for me.

Come to think of it I have not really answered your question. Of course in chess they are in opposition but perhaps they also can represent the split personality.

It may need further work.

Many thanks for your kind review of White Queen/Red Queen.  It is very interesting to read a review of a work and consider ideas that I had not previously thought of.
