I was very surprised to see the media listed for Fat Mary.  While the piece is photographically realistic, it goes even further in its graphic illusion by blurring the edges of the form and background, much like the distortion cameras offer with shifts in depth of field. I was amazed again to realize the drawing belonged to your body of more painterly and expressive outsized and enlivened birds.  I was enamored with several when I came across them originally, back in 2012.  Fat Mary exerts an equally bold presence and character on a large scale.  But this drawing stays more narrowly within the realm of realism, rather than engaging decorative motifs as smaller accents.  The viewer is left to contemplate the artists hand within this image- certainly there is a personification in the expression of the bird, but there’s no evidence that any artistic liberties were taken in depicting the subject with any but utmost accuracy. The dexterity within your practice is admirable. I would love to see what you’re working on now.
