Curator’s Comments:

Having previously enjoyed viewing your industrial scenes with predominantly warm color palettes in the past, I didn’t recognize Beech Fork Lake (1) as your painting when it came up randomly on the site today.  There is a freshness to this encaustic landscape, as white areas break through the mossy green foliage.  I see the foreground as marshy water, and the light streaks as highlights smoothly trailing across the horizontal plane.  Slightly darker shadows towards the bottom of the tree trunks could also be their reflections.  But the ambiguity of water and green grass is part of what attracts me to, and holds me in the space. The small edging (plants or a fence) about two-thirds down the composition breaks the piece into stable bands of space. It’s a nice counter to the downward dip in the upper tree line.  The vertical orientation of the landscape also reinforces the emphasis on the entering natural light.
