Curator’s Comments:
I thought I may have commented on your piece Ma Vie En Rose before, so please forgive any duplicity. Understandably it was posted quite a while ago. I found myself still struck when I came across it again randomly by the thin red line that is woven through the piece. Representing blood or raw crimson pigment, the nature of the color is a beautiful but jarring contrast to the local color palette of the insect on the glossy thorn covered branches. I’m taken by the subtle and pale coloration of the thorns, and wispy white drawing on top of the image. It moves the viewer up through the top of the composition, but with looming peril. The images are either side of this piece show a more overt use of dripping red pigment to represent blood and pain, and in a considerably more graphic sense. I find Ma Vie En Rose (My Life in Pink) more evocative in the ambiguity of its content, while presenting a gorgeous interplay between the known natural world and imagined life.
