Curator’s Comments:

I’m attracted to the acrylic glazing/layering and depth of color in this non-objective piece.  The larger, darker squares in the top section appear denser than the bottom half, and therefore successfully communicate the suspension of visual weight.  There is also an effective interplay between the repeated geometric elements, crossing back and forth between order and chaos. I find it interesting and possibly of note that this work appears to be somewhat of an outlier among rather biomorphic compositions. Another untitled piece (second to last in the sequencing) looks to be an amalgamation of several straight edges versus organic components.  Perhaps this work originated as a still life?  The relationship between the concentric circles on the right gives the illusion of space, as if peering down into a bowl from a slightly aerial perspective.  The left side is less suggestive of representation, but the textural treatment and color fluctuations within the shapes are design oriented, and create movement within the otherwise stationary objects.
