Curator’s Comments:
I continue to enjoy your postings of evocative non-objective painting. I was a bit surprised to see the medium of this particular painting was acrylic, as it presents more of a play of light with semi-transparent glazing. The repeated circular motif within the darker mass of blue-green hues breaks up the density of the opaque passages, and nicely introduces delicate linear elements to the amorphous clouds of color. The formal suspension of visual weight delivers a light, airy feeling to the piece. The cool white tinting at the bottom alternately lifts the visual emphasis and mood of the work. In general, I prefer your works with a square format. There is an unexpected friction between the push-pill of the painterly space, and for me this creates less of a desire to try and orient the picture as landscape of figural abstraction. I find Hopeful Unknown to be another particularly appealing work. The distribution of a proportionally large area of quieter space shows off and contrasts the richly worked and textural bottom section. This piece also successfully arrest an active additive and subtractive creative process.
