Curator’s Comments:

Girls in White Dresses One seems to be a more finished and multifaceted piece than some of your other works.  I’m not certain if it’s the layering of semi-transparent color that leads me to think it’s more developed, or simply the cropping of visible tape marks, etc.  I particularly enjoy the / design choice to arch the dress opposite the bridge; the movements complement and oppose each other in an intriguing manner, as there is a ghost like quality to the overlay of shapes.  The small bits of pure orange hues are nicely woven in the girl and foliage, connecting back to the left side of the painting with the bridge.  The push and pull within the figure-ground relationship also seems to be visible in the portrait entitled Spencer.  I particularly like the way the chalky white paint appears to cover deeper underlying color, resulting in bold and outlined orange contours. The result is both fresh and nicely crafted. In both works the facial features seem to be restrained so that the gestures of the subjects are emphasized, and the viewer is forced to place more attention on the surrounds.  I recognize these were both posted some time ago, and hope you continue to add new work on the site.
