Curators Comments:

Cave of Perception is a unique painting, providing a provocative entry into the space through low key value and lush, saturated color.  The ambiguity of the figurative abstraction also heightens my interest in the piece. While the short description you provided narrates the natural growth patterns we see, the high chroma color offers a supernatural read into the closely cropped landscape. While the color palette could suggest a desert cave at night, the textural mark-making to me suggests a wholly invented rock/organic surface.  I also like the way the swath of the deep blue water moves up and through the composition. The reddish formation to the right of the frozen blue-white opening then becomes a figural focal point, and decidedly enigmatic element.
