Curator’s Comments:

Before the full nature and scale of the doll was revealed in the adjacent Can Girl piece, I found myself perplexed by the strange glossy surface and proportion s of the legs peeking out in this photograph.  I really like the orientation, and ambiguity of the forms.  The figure appears to be stepping up, or walking through space away from the front of the picture plane.  The distortion of the black and white spiraling target makes for a strong graphic image, further echoed in the reflection on the can/dress.  Whereas the other piece makes good use of color and comes off as slightly humorous in the flailing gesture of the plastic Barbie type doll, I find this image to be an intriguing play on artifice.  It presents the ordinary in an unexpected and slick new way.
