Curator’s Comments:

This new painting Road Crew is quite strong.  I’ve enjoyed the brushy, gestural paint quality in many of your other pieces.  In this work the marks take on an almost frenetic sort of visual and emotional energy.  The orange highway cones read as the only static if not solid forms in the environment.  The small shadows ground them in space just as the quick yellow figures scurry slightly beyond them. I also appreciate that the larger spheres of light cast a harsh but dramatic presence in the scene. It is interesting that you note that viewers don’t always see or consider this identity of these construction workers, as they are faceless and virtually undisguisable in their grouping. I was surprised to see the dimensions indicated as 8 x 10. (Unless this is feet rather than inches.)  The piece commands what appears to be a large open space, so I would have imagined it on a much larger scale.
