Wishful Thinking gets even better with longer viewing.  I was initially drawn to the piece’s cohesively lush color pattern, but a closer look reveals more complex vignettes of contrasting red hues.  The blue-violet tint dominating the field warms up in areas to the redder pieces; it’s unclear if the blue is scumbled over the top, or if the final paint layer vacillates in opaque versus semi-transparent glaze to reveal what’s underneath.  The dominance and stability of the square format beautifully counters the more subtle painterly expression, and organic nature of the marks.  I also appreciate the patches of light yellow/gold, which provide further interest and variance to the palette.
