Curator’s Comments:
Stately Home is an intriguing image, in that the hyper-real color palette presents the mansion as slightly unreal. The image has a distinctive Wes Anderson appearance- compulsively symmetrical with a contemporary Baroque aesthetic. Even the sky pushes and pulls the viewer into the space. The wide path flanked by lush green grass leading to central front door is the same color as the home, as if it’s being systematically flattened rolled out to greet a visitor. The sky seems to darken slightly over the center peak, shifting to robin’s egg blue in the corners. I’m very curious what you intention is with this piece. The caption doesn’t offer more description than the title. Is it beauty or irony that is the optimal state?
