Curator’s Comments:

The monoprint Dinner at the Red Light has surprising precision and detail coupled with more spontaneous solvent splatters in the background.  I appreciate the sumptuous color palette that balances the saturated crimson hue against a blend roll of green to yellow-orange.  While the cropped image creates a certain degree of abstraction, the local color palette helps to clarify the organic subject matter.  There remains for me some ambiguity within the flower form.  It appears an insect or bird is enveloped within the red folds of the flower.  The close proximity of the red lips to the flower coupled with the title further ads a bit of mystery and tension. I see related imagery (if not sharing some part of a fixed matrix) including Rainbow Flavored Sugar Fiend, as similarly provocative.  The later piece shares the aesthetic balance between smoothly blended color and precise and contrasted subjects, and further heightens the disparity between proportion and scale. I do hope you continue to post more print work on the site.
