Thank you as always, Kristen, for your critique. I certainly appreciate your knowledgeable review. You seem to always have a very positive assessment on my work. Maybe I am doing something right.lol.

I certainly understand what you are saying as I m very concerned with geometry and spacial relationships

Thank you again. Working on another little sculpture.

All the best...

Dennis

Curator’s Comments:

Thank you for posting this new piece! It is highly engaging from a spatial perspective, and being familiar with your broader artistic practice for some time, I can appreciate some new directions and aesthetic decisions. The first thing that struck me as a departure from your previous sculptures is the treatment of the base in relationship to the painted aluminum.  The black marble appears to sink into the black background (this obviously would change based on setting) but the white striations in the stone appear to tie in the triangular form at its base.  Even viewed against a lighter ground, this natural banding creates a fluid connection to the constructed piece. The cantilevered ‘arm’ which I’ve seen in many of your other works seems to project even further from the central axis of the piece, and arriving/ending the open space of the circular element.  This intersection brings the viewer back to the center in an elegant circular movement.  I enjoy contemplating the title of the work. While the name to some degree implies a psychological if not physical extension into space, the sense of control and order is paramount.  As with similar sculptures you have on the site, Dominion is self-contained and balanced, but alludes to astral or cosmic reach.  Thank you for bringing this new piece to my attention.  It was both a surprise, and something familiar.
