Curator’s Comments:

I came across your Gesture in Reds drawing while searching for another piece, and was surprised to recognize your other body of text based and geometric work.  This figure does have a graphic sensibility in its use of clean lines and saturated hues, but the gestural line work is handled differently to capture the organic form. The small breaks in the contours keeps the forms from appearing too heavy visually, as the openings connect her to the ground.  The calligraphic nature of the marks add to the warm sensuality of the painting as well, but the piece is also curiously devoid of brushstrokes in the solid color.  I didn’t see media identified on any of the life drawings, and so I wonder if it’s a purely digital image.  While the artist’s hand isn’t revealed in the ground, I’m struck by the color temperature shifts within individual lines such as in the piece Gesture in Orange with Purple and Green.  It appears to be a calculated and purposeful shift in edge while effectively maintaining a loose, natural movement.
