Curator’s Comments:
Welcome to the site! These still life paintings are exquisitely rendered with ambient light, each creating a sense of lush texture and reflection. I’m particularly drawn to the loose splay of carnations in the piece referred to as Renaissance (17F 12). The elongation of the horizontal support reinforces the drama of the unconstrained composition. The warm red and sienna tones in the ground beautifully reflect the pigment in the open blooms, reminiscent of Dutch Master works with heavily glazed varnish. The Study of Blueberries is by contrast a fresh and crisp exploration of form. The trails of smoky shadow and flickering highlight coming off each berry animates the space, but also makes me ponder the idealization of the subject. I’m reminded of the famous Georgia O’Keeffe quote- nothing is less real than realism. I do look forward to seeing more of your work on the site!
