Curator's Comment:

This ghostly image offers a beautiful articulation of tactile surface and color tonality.  The sepia hues suggest a photographic process- timeless and arrested in development.  It almost reminds me of darkroom solarization. The emptiness of the subject's face imbues the image with a nostalgic or lonely quality; there is also a disquieting mystery in the absence of identifying portraiture.  The torso of the body is even more abstracted, allowing to viewer to make out disjointed contours of a feminine form. The enigmatic quality is further enhanced by the specter of Aunt Maggie's 'friend' in the title.  Like memory, only partial sections are complete.
