Curator’s Comments:

While I imagine Phontography simply refers to a digital photograph taken with a phone, I welcome the chance to be corrected!  But despite the origin or nature of the camera, I enjoy the ethereal quality that appears to be both a rusted pink patina and thermo-generated image.  The mysterious (or imaginary) heat source has an interesting radiating pattern that breaks into soft tones, modeled in more subtle transitions than the harder edges pieces enumerated dk1c, b, etc.  While these adjacent works related in the series on decay exhibit beautifully articulated textures, the rust source is still recognizable. (Dk1-d) transcends process and subject and becomes a wonderfully abstract photograph.  The suspension of the darker mass creates more visual weight on the very top edge of the composition, poetically depicting a darkening, but still warm sun.
