Today I came upon (new) Sunset Rhythms and Textures.  Realizing it’s no longer ‘new’, it still presents a freshness of space and vibrant color.  The layered strata is pleasurably reminiscent of sunsets, but the organic striations also recall agate or desert stone with their rust hues and marbled streaks.  I particularly enjoy the bands of slightly deeper red on the red-orange ground, and other analogous color pairings, as the space shifts slightly within these segments and slows down the horizontal movement. I have appreciated the square format of your other landscapes previously, believing the equality of borders provides an interesting tension, as opposed to a predictable landscape orientation. With this painting, perhaps because of the higher chroma palette, the square also enhances its reading as a painterly abstraction.
