SUMMARY:The F Word: Feminism Now
DESCRIPTION:International Deadline: September 20, 2014 - ARC Gallery a
nnounces an international call for artist for its upcoming juried exhi
bition, \"The \"F\" Word: Feminism Now\", to be held November 26-Decem
ber 20 2014, in our Chicago Gallery. All media considered. There is no
size limit.\nAs ARC was founded in the 70's during the height of the
Feminist Art Movement, we have decided to organize a tribute to femini
st exhibitions. Rather than revisit the history of Feminist Art and it
s early leaders, ARC is choosing to celebrate the gallery's feminist h
istory by examining what else Feminist Art is. That is, rather than re
ducing feminism's meaning to one familiar artist or era, ARC would lik
e to explore what feminist art was, what it has come to be, and where
it is going.\nIn mounting this juried group exhibition, ARC's goal is
not to deride or disown dominant associations or previous generations.
Our impulse is additive and exploratory rather than denunciatory. ARC
hopes to uncover other ways feminism has been, or will be, made visib
le particularly in regard to the contemporary art scene. To that end,
ARC invites submissions that engage, but are not limited to, the follo
wing topics:\n\nThe ideals of feminism - what does feminism mean today
? What does it mean to you?\nFeminist aesthetics -- what does feminism
look like and sound like?\nFeminism's history and viability in museum
s, galleries and other arts institutions\nThe many ways feminism has b
een misrepresented or dismissed\nFeminism's presence in contemporary s
ociety and why it is still needed\nFeminism's futures-Feminism's racia
l, gender, sexual and/or reproductive politics-Temporalities of femini
sm\nFeminism in popular culture / Celebrity Feminists\n\nWhile this ex
hibit will be in Chicago, ARC is searching for work from anyone intere
sted in this subject, national or international, all genders. All medi
a considered.JURORJeanne Dunning, Professor of Art, Northwestern Unive
rsityFEES$40 for one to three images. After the flat fee for the first
three images, there is a $10. fee for each additional image. There is
no limit to the number of submissions. The submission fee is non- ref
undable even if work is refused. If paying by check, it must be receiv
 ed prior to jurying.APPLY ONLINESubmission is a two-step process.ACCEP
TANCE REQUIREMENTSNo work that was not originally selected by the juro
r will be hung.\nAcceptance of video-based or sound-based art work wil
l require artists to supply their own equipment with simple, complete
instructions.SALESWorks will be for sale unless noted as NFS (not for
sale) on the entry form. ARC does not take commission on any work sold
, but will act as a liaison for sales of the artists' work.INSURANCEAR

assume responsibility or liability including but not limited to accide
nts, damaged work, or forces of nature.ACCEPTED WORK: SHIPPING AND DEL
IVERYWith the exception of hand-delivered and picked-up work, all work
shipped to and from the gallery must be paid ahead of time by the art

man-run cooperative gallery dedicated to providing alternative space e
xhibition opportunities for innovative artists outside the commercial
