SUMMARY:Extremities: An International Call for Entries
DESCRIPTION:International Deadline: October 1, 2014 - Highly regarded
Manifest Creative Research Gallery announces \"Extremities\", an inter
national call for entries exploring hands and feet.\nThey're a part of
us we take for granted, like everything else we've lived with all our
lives from birth. Naturally they feel less just a part, and more an i
nseparable extension of our wholeness. Yet when lost, paralyzed, or wo
unded, our hands and feet are recognized for what they are–the outer
most point of contact our minds have with the world outside our bodies
. Anthropologically they define our specie, served its propagation aro
und the globe in distant pre-history, and even provided the hand-stamp
signature on our oldest surviving paintings from 40,000 years ago.\nT
he hand and the foot remain a powerful reminder of our humanity, our p
hysicality, and our origins. Not solely practical tools for locomotion
, survival, and the manipulation of our environment, they also carry o
ur expression. We can speak fluently with our hands, punctuate vocal s
peech, and express love and tenderness with our touches, trust and agr
eement with a handshake, or great violence and anger with a simple ges
ture. One could claim that all we are, all we have accomplished in our
time on Earth–both good and ill–is an expression of these extremi
ties.\nWith this in mind we offer this call to artists for works that
address hands or feet in some way. All manner of interpretations, expl
orations, and expression involving hands or feet are welcome.\nHOW TO
INTERPRET THIS EXHIBIT THEME Artists are encouraged to take a broadly
creative view of the theme. Our multi-member juries enjoy surprise, cr
eative solutions, and most of all exceptionally well put together visu
al art.\nSUMMARY Extremities' is a competitive international exhibitio
n of works exploring the theme of hands and feet. Works selected will
represent some point of view, image, or idea about them, whether real
or imagined.\nThis exhibit has no predefined expectation for type or s
tyle of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from
the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental
. The only criteria beyond excellent quality (image/presentation) is t
hat works must qualify as being clearly related to or about hands or f
eet.\nELIGIBILITY Extremities' is open to everyone. The only limitatio
n beyond the general theme is that entries must represent original wor
ks which qualify in some considerable way as exploring the theme of ha
nds or feet.\nMEDIA Open to any and all traditional and non-traditiona
l visual arts media.\nJURY & CURATOR This exhibit will be juried by an
anonymous several-member panel of professional and academic advisors.
\nPUBLICATION Manifest Press will produce a high quality hard-cover pu
blication documenting this exhibition, artists, and works shown, along
the other new season exhibitions.\nENTRY FEE $36 for up to three entr
ies submitted. $10 per each additional entry. Fees are non-refundable.
