DESCRIPTION:National Deadline: April 1, 2015 – Highly regarded Annma
 rie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, in association with the Smithsonia
 n Institution, announces a call for artists for “Heroes & Villains: 
 exploring archetypes through art”, a national juried exhibition on d
 isplay June 19 – August 23, 2015, at the spacious Main Gallery of An
 nmarie’s award-winning Murray Arts Building.\nAll media welcome; sma
 ll to large-scale installations; new media encouraged; indoor and outd
 oor works accepted; cash awards to be presented.\nThis exhibit invites
  artists to submit works that celebrate the heroes and villains that p
 opulate history, literature, popular culture, folklore, mythology, psy
 chology, and other realms of human experience and expression. As an ar
 tist, where do you find inspiration? In the protagonist or the antagon
 ist, or in the many shades of gray in between? Do historical figures f
 ascinate you, or do you turn to fictional characters for your subject 
 matter? Whether you look to history books or comic books, or your own 
 fantastical imagination, this exhibit welcomes artists that explore th
 e complexities and nuances of heroes and villains.  CASH AWARDS Annmar
 ie will present cash awards to outstanding work. Juror(s) will review 
 installed works (not application images) for award selection. Typicall
 y there are at least three awards. All award-winning artists will rece
 ive an invitation for a solo or group show.  THE EXHIBITION SPACE The 
 exhibit will be installed in the spacious Main Gallery of Annmarie’s
  award-winning Murray Arts Building. With over 4000 sq ft of exhibitio
 n space, moveable walls, high ceilings, tile floors, an Arakawa hangin
 g system, Internet access, and electric outlets located in the walls, 
 floor and ceiling, the Main Gallery can accommodate all sizes and type
 s of installations. As Annmarie includes a thirty acre sculpture garde
 n, a few outdoor works will also be included in the exhibit.  JURY & S
 ELECTION PROCESS The exhibit will be juried by a 1-2 member panel; typ
 ically, one member of the panel is drawn from the Smithsonian Institut
 ion. Artists will be selected based on skill, technique, and originali
 ty. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2015. Artists will be notified o
 f final acceptance status via email on or before April 17, 2015.  ENTR
 Y FEE Artists must submit a $25 non-refundable entry fee ($20 for Annm
 arie members) for up to 4 entries.  SALE OF WORKS Should a sale result
 ing from the exhibition occur, Annmarie will retain a 40% commission o
