SUMMARY:Kingdom: An International Exhibit Exploring the Animal in Art
DESCRIPTION:International Deadline: February 28, 2014 - Highly regarde
d Manifest Creative Research Gallery announces 'Kingdom', an internati
onal exhibition exploring the animal in art.\nImages of animals in art
have existed parallel to those of humans for as long as images (and o
bjects) have been made by people. Our social, creative, and psychologi
cal evolution is inextricably tied to our relationships with animals.
Whether it be the taming of the wolf, resulting in 'man's best friend'
, the tethering of the horse which magnified the power and geographic
reach of humans, or the domestication of herd animals which contribute
d to the establishment of cities and large concentrations of people (a
nd the growth of culture), they are all part of the trajectory of huma
nity to this point in time. All have been documented, explored, and de
ified throughout the long process by images and objects featuring anim
als.\nBut this isn't just history (and pre-history). The animal remain
s a powerful subject in contemporary art. So Manifest has chosen once
again to feature an exhibit which will reveal the state of the animal
in contemporary art. With this we call for artists working in any medi
a to submit works that in some way feature or address animals, real or
imagined.\nThis exhibit has no predefined expectation for type or sty
le of work to be considered or selected. Submissions can range from th
e most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental. The only cr
iteria beyond excellent quality is that works must somehow address or
feature the animal as primary subject, form, or content.ELIGIBILITYKin
gdom is open to everyone. Professionals as well as students are encour
aged to enter. The only limitation is that entries must represent orig
inal works which in some way address or feature the animal as primary
subject, form, or content.MEDIAOpen to any and all traditional and non
-traditional visual arts media.\nManifest's carefully assembled juries
change from project to project, and have no collective predisposition
towards any particular kind or style of art.PUBLICATIONManifest Press
will produce a high quality hard-cover publication documenting this e
xhibition, artists, and works shown, along the other new season exhibi
tions. This continues Manifest's commitment to documentation and disse
mination of our projects, and the expansion of physical exhibits into
a broader geography and timeframe.ENTRY FEEEach work submitted must be
  accompanied by a $12 non-refundable entry fee.ENTRYVisit Manifest Gal
lery for complete info, project calendar, and to enter online.INSURANC
